Student Privacy and FERPA

The Family Educational Right to Privacy Act (FERPA) protects student information for students who enroll and attend OSU. Student data, including data exports, should only be shared with other OSU faculty and staff with a legitimate purpose for accessing the data. All users must review the FERPA information on the OSU Registrar's Website and complete the required FERPA training. Requests to share data with non-OSU individuals must be approved by David Mariott, Director of University CRM Systems, in accordance with institutional policy.

Recruitment and admission information for students who enroll and attend OSUIT is considered part of the student's educational record and is protected by FERPA. Access to student records from previous recruitment cycles (including current students) is restricted.

Protection of student privacy is crucial, and the consequences of mishandling of student information are significant. When in doubt, do not release student information—consult your department head, college administrators, or the Registrar’s Office.
